ANISE ANDERSON

When Anise came squalling into this world, amidst the filth of the Dome's slums, she was joined by her twin brother.  Their parents did their best by their two young children, but it was a hard life regardless.  Hunger was a constant companion and the twain were alternately inseparable and fighting over the scant resources their beleaguered parents could provide.  

Only a few years later another child was born.  Her name was Beth.  While Anise took an immediate, protective liking to their little sister, her brother was a little more pragmatic about her.  Here was another mouth to feed when they were already struggling to make ends meet.  When he expressed his feelings to Anise, she told him that they'd manage just fine.  After all, hadn't they so far?  It was with a child's surety that Anise felt everything would work itself out.

All in all, things did work out, though more often than not Anise shared her scant food supply with Beth.  Both her and her brother picked up side jobs once they were old enough to be of any use.  This helped proved a little extra funds to their parents' meager wages, allowing them to get off the streets for a time.  But then tragedy struck.

Their parents and little sister were struck with one of the many diseases running rampant in the slums.  While Beth pulled through, their parents did not, and Beth's health was never the same.  Anise became even more protective of her little sister as her brother became more and more resentful of the military system in the Dome that had doomed their family like this.

It wasn't long before Anise's twin had pursued rumors about smugglers and a resistance. He was sure there were better ways to survive the Echos than dying a slow death in the Dome.  He persuaded his sister to join him and she agreed, assuming Beth would be joining them.  She was desperate to get Beth somewhere that might be better for her health and this looked like an out.

When they made their break for it, Beth got left behind in the shuffle.  Anise demanded to go back for her before the worst happened but her twin decided it was too risky.  Cursing him for a coward, she went anyway, determined to get her baby sister to safety.  But she never regained the Dome.  In an attempt to evade a military patrol, she risked the shadows of a low hillock where she was overrun with Echos and infected.  

Now a Whisperer, she is filled with bitterness and hatred toward the military and her brother.  She fears Beth dead at the hands of the military for their attempted escape and blames it, and her own condition, on her brother's faithlessness as she sees it.  She feels she has nothing truly to live for but doesn't intend to waste her life on anything less than fratricide.
